HISTORICAL MEAL LITERATURE AWARD 2023 TO ”MATARVETS TRÅDAR”

Proud to be part of an award-winning book, with a chapter on Swedish Fika! The book, “Matarvets trådar”, published by the Heritage Academy, was named the 2023 “Historical meal literature” winner by the Swedish Academy of culinary arts and meal science. The editors, Jenny Berntson-Högström and Pernilla Schedin did a magnificent job of turning the many chapters into a readable book.

In my chapter on Swedish Fika, I compared our Swedish everyday coffee ritual to the Japanese Tea Ceremony , launching the idea that Swedish Fika as a symbol for Sweden could play a role in nation branding and destination marketing.

As an illustration of fika being for all ages I choose Magnus Skoglöf’s photo from my book, Fika: Made in Sweden. As my recipe contribution I shared my recipe for Kanelbullar — cinnamon buns.
